Discover Caminito del Rey: Hiking the King's Little Path
The Caminito del Rey was once known as one of the most dangerous paths in the world. Today, this boardwalk hangs safely on the cliffs of the El Chorro gorge, less than 60 km from Málaga, and it's one of the best day trips in Andalusia.
The route is about 8 km one way, running from the northern entrance near Ardales down to El Chorro. Tickets cost €10, sell out often and should be booked online in advance. Everyone gets a helmet at the start, and children under 8 aren't allowed.
There's more to do than the walk itself:
Walking the Caminito del Rey trail
Rock climbing around El Chorro
Mountain biking
Swimming in the nearby lake
Pick a sunny day, beat the crowds and go explore!

Best Time to Visit
Winter
Pick a sunny winter day to avoid the summer heat and crowds. Winter in southern Spain is mild and still great for a walk in the mountains.
Difficulty
Easy
Since the renovation, the trail is easy: solid boardwalks with railings, mostly downhill from north to south. Everyone gets a helmet at the entrance. Children under 8 aren't allowed.
Duration
2-4 hours
We walked it in about 2 hours at a leisurely pace. The official estimate for the full 8 km, access paths included, is 3–4 hours. It can be windy in the gorge, and gusts sometimes blow away loose items.
Reachability
Car/Public Transport
By train, get off at El Chorro, where the trail ends, and take the shuttle bus (€2.50) to the northern entrance. The route finishes back at El Chorro, so you can catch the train back to Málaga. Drivers can park at the visitor centre for €2 a day.

Essential tips for your visit to Caminito del Rey: Hiking the King's Little Path
Reserve a shuttle-bus seat when you buy your ticket. The bus gives priority to tour groups, so without a reservation you may have to wait.
Trains to El Chorro are infrequent, so catch the earliest one. Trains back to Málaga run more often.
A combo ticket for the train and the trail used to exist, but it has been discontinued.
Kids must be at least 8: bring their original ID or family book, since ages are checked at the entrance.
